What is the Buddy Program?
- © DAAD
With the buddy program we are aiming to set TU Berlin students and exchange students from our partner universities in contact to give them the chance of an intercultural exchange. TU Berlin buddies take exchange students under their wings during their first few weeks in order to make their lifes a little easier. This can include the pick-up from the airport, help with the authorities, navigating the course catalogue, going out at night, etc. By doing so both, the TU Berlin buddy and the exchange student, experience the intercultural exchange on a very personal level which can even lead to long lasting friendships.
What's a buddy?
"Buddy" is a term used to describe a friend or a mate. By matching one exchange student with a TU Berlin student both become a "buddy".
Why would I need a Buddy?
As an exchange student the first few weeks at a new university can be very confusing. That is why we recommend to take part in the buddy-program since your TU Berlin buddy can provide you with the much needed orientation on and off campus (especially taking care of the necessary administrative matters). If your TU Berlin buddy is really nice he/she might even offer to pick you up from the airport to show you to your accommodation. They are also your first German contact and might introduce you to Berlin's cultural and night life.
You should always be aware that your TU Berlin buddy is helping you on a voluntary basis.
How to get a Buddy!
If you want to be set in contact with a TU Berlin buddy please check the appropriate box on your exchange student application. We will assign a TU Berlin buddy to you after your application has been processed. The matching takes place in March/April for summer semesters and September/October for winter semesters.
TU Berlin Buddy Confirmation
In case your TU Berlin buddy wants a confirmation of his buddy activity they will ask you to fill in a short evaluation form which will be provided after sending an email to email@example.com
